On the breakup of slender liquid bridges: Experiments and a 1-D numerical analysis

چکیده

Slender axisymmetric dielectric liquid bridges are made stable by the action of an axial electric field. In this paper, the subsequent dynamics of a slender liquid bridge after turning off the electric field is considered. The evolution in time of the bridge profile is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. A one-dimensional model is used to simulate the dynamic response of the system. Experiments are performed applying an axial electric field to a liquid bridge of 1 mm of diameter, and turning-off the electric field. The evolution of the liquid bridge is recorded using a video camera, and the digitized images are analysed. Good agreement between computations and experiments is found.  Elsevier, Paris

One-dimensional self-similar solution of the dynamics of axisymmetric slender liquid bridges

Liquid bridges appear in a large variety of industrial processes such as the so-called floating-zone technique, used in recent years in crystal growth and in purification of high-melting-point materials. In this paper the dynamics of axisymmetric, slender, viscous liquid bridges having volume close to the cylindrical one, and subjected to a small gravitational field parallel to the axis of the ...

The Dynamics of Axisymmetric Slender Liquid Bridges between Unequal Disks

In this paper the influence of an axial microgravity on the dynamic stability of axisymmetric slender liquid bridges between unequal disks is numerically studied by using a one-dimensional theory. The breaking of such liquid configurations is analyzed and the dependence of some overall characteristics of the breaking process on the value of axial microgravity, the geometry and the volume of the...

CFD Hydrodynamics Analysis of Syngas Flow in Slurry Bubble Column

In this paper, a CFD model of syngas flow in slurry bubble column was developed. The model is based on an Eulerian-Eulerian approach and includes three phases: slurry of solid particles suspended in paraffin oil and syngas bubbles. Numerical calculations carried out for catalyst particles, bubble coalescence and breakup included bubble-fluid drag force and interfacial area effects. Also, the ef...

Influence of insoluble surfactant on the deformation and breakup of a bubble or thread in a viscous fluid

The influence of surfactant on the breakup of a prestretched bubble in a quiescent viscous surrounding is studied by a combination of direct numerical simulation and the solution of a long-wave asymptotic model. The direct numerical simulations describe the evolution toward breakup of an inviscid bubble, while the effects of small but non-zero interior viscosity are readily included in the long...

Influence of nozzle geometry and injection conditions on the cavitation flow inside a diesel injector

Cavitation and turbulence in a diesel injector nozzle has a great effect on the development and primary breakup of spray. However, the mechanism of the cavitation flow inside the nozzle and its influence on spray characteristics have not been clearly known yet because of the internal nozzle flow complexities. In this paper, a comprehensive numerical simulation is carried out to study the intern...
